As someone who’s worked at major universities in nutritional, agricultural and medical research my entire career, from the late 1970s until 2020 when I retired, I can honestly say that I saw the gradual decline in the quality of research being done in so-called prestigious universities. As an example, one of my trusted coworkers told me that the day after I resigned from my position (I would not comprise my professional integrity under our new management) that supervisor told our lifestyle intervention research team that they should not pay attention to the details, but just “get the job done”. That’s when I knew that I made the right decision!
It was no surprise to me to see the decline in trust in our government agencies, especially through Covid.
